safeTEK™ is L-3
Geneva's low cost primary or secondary source flight termination
system (FTS). The system uses Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF)
sequenced tones to signal the appropriate host system and
reduce the risk of an unexpected termination. The system
is made up of a control station component and a vehicle hardware
component. The vehicle component is a signal receiver that
is compact in size and powered by a rechargeable battery
pack. It provides a discrete output signal that can be used
to trigger the recovery system process. The discrete signal
can be reset upon reception of the reset command tone sequence.
The control station component is made up of a 19 in. rack
mountable box with the capability of transmitting three independent
termination signals up to sixty miles line-of-sight. Each
termination signal can be reset independently.
safeTEK has been used successfully on a variety of systems
including but not limited to Geneva's Dakota UAV. Installation
examples include triggering a parachute to deploy or, in the case
of an airship, the trigger signal is used to fire a burn ring allowing
the helium to be released rapidly. When safety is of the essence, safeTEK offers
a backup to bring the vehicle down safely and quickly.
